Alexander proposed this morning!
Last night he wouldn’t stop bugging me about his brilliant idea to head out to the beach for the sunrise “to take pictures”. We were laying in our beds and he kept asking “but if a wake you up will you come with me?” I made it pretty clear that I would absolutely not be doing that at 5am, but, he was a man with a plan :).
I heard him wake up, opened one eye and saw it was pitch black outside, and was some-what received when I heard the door shut. I didn’t have to go! I get to sleep! But surely enough, before I knew it he came waltzing back in the room, shining a head lamp directly in my face. I tried to fake sleep for as long as possible, until i was forced to squint when the light was shining straight through my eyelids. I peeked my eyes open as I felt him lifting the mosquito net from the bed while saying “I brought you something!” He was holding this incredible bouquet of flowers. Alexander, after all, did believe me when I said I wasn’t getting up - he knew a bribe was in order. I decided there was no way I could just lay there after that… I mean that man brought flowers! Slowly I began to gain consciousness and realized he was looking rather sharp at this fine, 5am hour, he had on his cute Saturdays button-down. “What do you want to wear?” He asked. I told him “this” - which was my underwear and a tank top, so I picked out a pair of shorts.
Hey - why is the camera recording? I thought, but despite all of the clues, and the fact that he said “I have something planning” as I pouted putting my shorts on. I still wasn’t full convinced… there’s no way he’s going to propose. So I squished my face in every time he pointed the goPro my way.
We got down to the beach and Alexander carefully selected a spot to lay the towel down and us to sit and “take photos”. The sun was still not quite up yet, so I quickly collapsed on the blanket as he set up the goPro behind us. Once he sat down next to me he opened his bible, and explained to me that he wanted to read what he wants for our lives, and ultimately what God wants. He read 1 John 4:7-21 about God and His love, Romans 8:37-39, his favorite - Romans 12, Proverbs 31 about a woman who fears the Lord; it says “strength and dignity are her clothing…” and “her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and praises her; Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all!” Then finally he read John 13 where Jesus washes his disciples feet and explains this ultimate example of servanthood, so he washed my feet, right there, as the sun started to creep over horizon.. it was beautiful. Making sure I kept them clean, I folded them up, as he was kneeling in front of me. It was until he reached into his pocket that I really knew - this was it!!! I forced myself to be in the moment as much as I could. He stared in my eyes and into my heart, and I stared right back into his. He explained all of this love and I warmed my heart with confidence and assurance that God made him for me. He opened the box and I still couldn’t believe it - I covered my face because I was blushing out of control! When I peered through my hands I saw the most beautiful ring I have ever seen in my life, carefully crafted for my little finger.
I am going to marry my best friend, andGodly man who is going to lead my to Jesus for the rest of my life.
